What is Casa Vicens and why does it matter?

Casa Vicens is an important early work by Antoni Gaudí and one of the seven Gaudí buildings inscribed on UNESCO’s World Heritage List. The Catalan heritage authority says it was built between 1883 and 1888, and it opened to the public as a house museum in November 2017.

Its façade is covered with green and white tiles. Inside, the house includes a room known as the “fumador,” or smoking room. The building’s history and architecture give the visit its focus: you can see Gaudí’s first major Barcelona work as a house, rather than only as an exterior landmark.
